First
Baptist Community Development Corporation (FBCDC) in
collaboration with Cisco Systems, Inc. has opened a
Cisco Academy in the Renaissance Community. The Renaissance
Community is a geographic target area consisting of
1,500 acres a long the Route 27 corridor between New
Brunswick and Franklin Township.
The
partnership between FBCDC and Cisco Systems, Inc. was
formed due to a shared vision and desire to empower
a community by responding to community development problems
that are caused or aggravated by the lack of exposure
and access to computer based technology and training.
Academy
Goals
- To
establish greater levels of empowerment and self-sufficiency
among residents of the Renaissance community.
- To
establish the Renaissance Cisco Academy as a model
for other communities across the country as to how
industry, individuals, families, and a community can
make productive use of information and communications
technology.
- To
establish higher levels of technology and information
literacy skills so that community members, both young
and old, can become viable participants in new markets
and in existing opportunities.
